O'Reilly simply puts a mirror in front of America to show us how absurd it is to allow our children to be raised without morals and values. I agree he uses the words "shut up" too much, but when guests are so obnoxious, this seems to be what I want to say. Its sad when an adult can not carry on an adult conversation without realizing that there is always more than one side to an issue and all need to be discussed, argued over and then the public should be able to make up their own mind as to what they think and feel.

I stopped watching O'Reilly and actually Fox all together when he started bullying George Clooney when he collected all that money for 9-11 families and gave it to the Red Cross and O'Reilly started on him for not controlling where it went himself. I taught school for 31 years, 19 of which were in Kindergarten. It doesn't take a college education to know that children learn from what they see and hear. I was always taught that it was rude to say "Shut Up". Several years ago while working as a sub teacher in a high school I used the expression in a moment of total frustration. The class responded as though I had use the F word. I was shocked at the powerful response! For 39 yrs. I stood before thousands of students, as an English teacher and I know what it is like to maintain one's dignity, poise, and still be able to function. If ever, if ever, I was to stoop to O'Reilly's level as he does on every show, I would have been brought up on charges and dismissed! He really thinks he knows what it is like to teach, then let him get his big mouth and ass into an actual teaching situation and let's see how long the students and the system tolerate his behavior. My guess is that he would not last the week.

I really don't know who O'Reilly appeals to, but he sure seems a lot of attention from Brave New Films. I wonder if a poll were taken, what percentage of people actually listen to the crap that this man extolls. Does he really believe what he's saying? Does anyone know him personally. Fox must enjoy all the attention this man gets but I would personally prefer to let him just sit in his hole by himself and ruminate on all the bile that he spews from his mouth.

Bill O'Reilly is antithetical to what he spews out, at least when it comes to abuse. A Mackris had the guts to not be intimidated by Billy or Fox and slammed him against the wall. And he crumbled like all bullies do when confronted with a resolute individual.

Yikes. I'm an adult and that was frightening. I educated my 2 boys early on and don't need O'Reilly's interference. I showed them this as a propaganda piece full of hypocrisy. You've only scratched the surface here. What about his sexual behavior? Does O'Reilly tell these kids that he used his status at Fox "News" to sexually harass and intimidate a woman who worked for him? Did he tell them that he had to settle this out of court, in secret, to try and keep this information contained? Did he tell kids that there are recordings of O'Reilly "talking dirty" to this woman, when she wasn't interested? What a fine example for kids. O'Reilly is a combination of Ted Baxter and George Wallace.

I teach 6th grade. If I ever became that explosive in my classroom, NO learning would ever happen. Modeling quality behavior and language is paramount. Bill O'Reilly does not model quality behavior or language. It's clear to me someone else wrote the book and the true author and himself are sharing the profits. So, excuse me but I have to go set my classroom up before the kids come on the 25th.

I NEVER watch Fox or Bill O'Rielly. Unfortunately, I do see him on other shows, like the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I give most kids credit in being able to figure out that a person like O'Rielly is a jerk and they would not put much credence in his words. Boycotting FOX is the best idea, and most importantly, expose your children to other points of view.

I am afraid for "parents" who buy that book for their kids. At the same time though, I believe they will get exactly what they deserve when their child starts telling them to "shut up". As a teacher and a parent I find Bill O'Reilly's behavior appalling. If I treated my students or my children in the manner Mr. O'Reilly displays quite often it would be considered verbal child abuse. I would be disciplined the first time I engaged in that behavior and then on subsequent times when I displayed such behavior, it would be documented carefully, counseling would be offered and, eventually followed by dismissal from my job. Mr. O'Reilly is the last person I would want to teach my children.

If he helps FOX appeal to a certain subset demographic desired by sponsors it matters not at all what he does, what he says, or how he behaves. Moral or ethical principles don't enter into it at all. O'Reilly is a talking head. He performs day after day after day. Any "talent," or professional talker, need to get their head in a place where they can perform their job. "The No Spin Zone" O'Reilly refers to, is that personal place he needs to be in to do his job where his head does not spin off his body. Being the emotional duplicitous person he is makes this difficult for him and the cracks often show. His book is a useful tool for that most important of learned schooling skills, Critical Thinking.
Just a brief note to the people who post comments: Please reread your letters before sending them. The misspellings and confused grammar hurt your valid arguments. I'd love to forward some of those good observations to conservative friends, but the poor writing makes the comments look foolish, and therefore, unconvincing. A word to the wise.

The only way to get rid of people like O'Reilly is to quit watching him, reproducing his comments, and givind him the notoriety he craves. Yes, he is a racist, hateful bully... why are we watching him! By the way the term "redneck" refers to people who work outdoors, such as farmers. The back of their necks after years in the sun become a deep red color... like my grandfather. It is also a term used by people who don't know any better than to demean people in the south. I was always taught the three C's growing up. Cool, Calm, and Collected. I instill this in my children every chance I get. When you keep a level head, you have the advantage over your oponent, regardless of how intelligent they may be. As a friend of Bill W, I can agree that Mr. O should be another friend, but I am afraid he would have to quit his job. The program requires "rigorous honesty", and this is one area where Mr. O and Fox are woefully deficient.

When our daughter was 4 y/o she learned the words, "Shut up!" from some older kids and decided to use it regularly. When we heard her, we told her that these words were hateful, and if she chose to say them one more time we would wash her mouth out with soap. Within a minute she said it again and was promptly brought in the house and a swipe of soap rubbed over her tongue. She never uttered the phrase again. Having taught for 35 years, I have seen many bullies. Watching O'Reilly, it is very clear I have seen one of the worst ones. Bullies can't be taught a better way as long as they get the attention they crave from this behavior. The best way to silence a bully is to ignore him... O'Reilly is obviously a self-centered person who failed to learn any of the basic lessons of life: respect for others; honesty; and treating others the way you wish to be treated. It's entirely possible that his book might have legitimate value. That's the funny thing about hypocrites -- he may well be passing on valuable lessons that he just never internalized. Not that I have very high expectations, given the source, but it deserves a critical read before condemnation. The TV was on the other night as I was doing the dinner dishes. My 10 and 13 year old were watching Bill. My 10 year old asked me why this man invited people on his show then screamed at them. He never lets them finish making a comment or answer a question, he is mean. They then changed the channel which is what I was just about to do. My 17 year old believes that we should block Fox from viewing. What a smart kid he is.

My suggestion is for Bill O'Reilly to go back to school. It's obvious that he was absent the day that kindness and decency were taught. As a matter of fact, he missed all the days when anything remotely nice was taught. I am so tired of Bush supporters thinking it's okay to talk to anyone who disagrees with them in the most horrible, belitting way. This country has gotten so rude under Bush's watch, and that's a huge reason why it will be a cold day on the Equator when I vote for a Republican ever again!!!!!

Bill O really should be taken off the air. He never learned that telling others to "Shut up!" is rude, hurtful and infuriating; it also keeps him from learning anything from them. He never learned to tell the truth, to respect other people, and to accept his diminuitive standing in the course of ethics. Contact your cable/sat TV provider and tell them you don't want to pay for Fox News with your basic subscriptions, and ask them to move it to the extra-cost section. Tell them you want MSNBC and BBC on regular service level. That will remove O'Reilly from a lot of homes, because we all know racists are too cheap to shell out the extra dough for news.

While it is true that Bill O'Reilly gets ratings by being obnoxious, what's more worrisome to me is that a significant portion of people are attracted to his anger and abusiveness. At the same time, I cannot help but note the verbal abuse that some commenters are heaping on him here. Remote communication makes many people feel free to be uncivil in ways they would not face to face. If we want to restore some civility to public debate, we do need to start with ourselves.

You should know better. Trying to form an opinion of someone while only viewing outtakes that represent one characteristic is a waste of time and will not lead you to an informed decision. You have to watch it for a while (at least one week) and by then you will have enough information. Glen Beck on CNN is another one you should check out.

There is something sexually perverse about O'Reilly's obsession with children. Being a sociopath he obviously doesn't realize he's a weirdo. I remember he said when talking about writing his book, "We just pulled these kids and asked them some questions..." I wrote him an email and asked if "we" had permission from their parents to "just pull these kids" and question them without supervision and then use them in money-making-book-crusade exploitation scheme. Where were these kids when you pulled them? Seems to me that O'Reilly should never have been allowed to do such a thing with minor children and he may have crossed some legal lines.

If I had ever spoken to others the way Mr. O'Reilly routinely speaks to his guests, I would have had my mouth washed out with soap. Mr. O'Reilly should go spend some quality time with kids. I haven't watched FOX in years, don't have cable, and can't remember the last time I even watched any TV, and when I see things like this I realize I'm not missing a thing. O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Coulter all need the same thing - INTENSE THERAPY - probably in-patient so they aren't running around loose while their demons are being exorcised. I'm surprised Fox really lets this man continue his rants night after night. He is so wrong on so many levels that it would take to long to point them all out. I would not want my child learning a thing from people like him, let alone buy his book.

For starters, I refuse to tune into FOX anymore because of their biased reporting, flare for the dramatics and sappy exchanges. As far as Reilly goes, thanks for bringing this to my attention. My advice for Reilly is to teach through example. Kids learn daily lessons from how we behave and treat others! The book should be hidden in the back of the bookstore .. obscured from sight so as not to draw attention or offend!

To Bill O'Reilly: You need to learn that bullying is not acceptable behavior. An important part of growing up is learning that we, as individuals, are not the center of the universe. I do understand that the reason you act up, misbehaving, is to be the center of attention. Such behavior defeats your purpose, however, as it causes people to dismiss you as a "crank".

As the recipient of a bullying, badgering parent who was as misguided as O'Reilly, we really do not need to see this harshness perpetuated. Teaching is a calling not unlike nursing where concern for the person being serviced is primary objective. Allowing O'Reilly to mentor any child would be like inviting Annie Wilkes from the film 'Misery' to minister to your health needs.

It's obvious that Mr. O'Reilly has a perception problem. His ego is so large that he is blind to his own shortcomings. The trouble is, he is no average joe. He pretends to know what others don't and comes off as an authority to some. The damage is with people who take him at face value and pass this ignorance on to their kids. Well not all of us are that gullible. Shame on the Fox network for having people on their network that are so blatantly and willfully manipulative.

How many times have you watched the O'Reilly Factor? I have watched it for years and though O'Reilly does have a bit of a temper sometimes in my opinion he is not a bully and he really is a good guy. O'Reilly and his production staff should be required to read *Letters to a Bullied Girl: Messages of Healing and Hope* to see the effects of bullying on people of all ages and walks of life. In contrast, O'Reilly's writing is pedestrian and cliche-ish. He spends his foreward in part justifying his behavior on screen. I hope *The O'Reilly Factor for Kids* doesn't earn out its advance.

I think the most important thing I remember was the old adage - 'IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT SOMEBODY, SAY NOTHING' ....In this case it would creat a vacancy on Fox for a better show, like showing LIVE funerals of American Troops, or news stories about the real 'ruined' lives of those coming home from that illegal immoral 'attack on Iraq'. I suggest O'Reilly read Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. When it comes to bullying, bragadaccio, being bigoted, opinionated and loud-mouthed, O'Reilly gets high marks. His grade for being civil, polite, caring, compassionate, accepting of varying viewpoints, and a good listener: a "D". Bill O'Reilly is among the least qualified American pundits to offer advice to children. I wish he'd just follow his own advice and "shut up!" Or better yet, disappear from TV.

While we're surely all disgusted by Bill O'Reilly, let's not forget that ultimately he is an angry, lost, confused individual whose judgement has overrun all sense of humanism or compassion. Regardless of what we say or do, he already lives in hell. What we really need to do here is bigger than strike back - what needs to happen (indeed, for the survival of our nation and perhaps our species) is a global shift in human consciousness. Let's step up and see this from a larger scale instead of stepping down to his level.

First off, let's not allow our frustrations to build to where we start bullying as Mr. O'Reilly does. A mean person who's given power and recognition will never see reason to change. We need to take away his power, don't buy his book(s), keep conversations going with others and behave as we should. In school Mr. O'Reilly should have been taught to: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I imagine his parents could have done a better job as well as the teachers.

I taught my children not to bully and shout at others, and my grandchildren are learning the same lessons. It is easily possible to stand up for your own rights and support your own opinions with shouting or being belligerent. Mr. O'Reilly's actions are the exact opposite of appropriate behavior. I don't know if his book has a disclaimer reading "Do as I say, not as I do." Knowing how he behaves, I would certainly not buy his book, and would advise others to avoid it.

Gore won the nationwide popular vote in 2000, and also won the Florida popular vote when all of the statewide votes were finally recounted in the summer of 2001. Several election officials in Ohio went to jail for manipulating the vote in the 2004 Presidential election. If we had an honest Justice Department there would have been more investigations of the vote counting irregularities. We will need more than luck in this election. We will need honest election officials and honest vote counting.

Hypocrisy and outright inaccuracy are very evident in mr. o'reilly's statements and behavior...The snippets are indeed condemning since they are very representative of the context in which they are delivered - and, yes, I believe in context so I read transcripts, use YouTube and or "watch the tape". My parents taught me to listen, and then respond to what has been said. Mr. O'Reilly does neither. His questions are phrased such that, usually, there is no rational response. Remember, all television and radio programs are ENTERTAINMENT. There no need for facts or righteousness. If you agree with Mr. O'reilly's positions you'll cheer and praise him. I learned plenty of things in kindergarten and elementary school. I learned the alphabet. I learned how to read and write. I learned to share and play fair.
