Brave New Films: Gays For Giuliani Releases Their First Ad

  • Fiona · 2 years ago
While Rudy likes to cross dress and stays with gay friends between marriages -- something he still doesn't support for gay people -- he's a Republican and his party would never support his stance on even condescending civil unions, his mayoral record honoring New York City minorities was appalling and under the guise of cleaning up the city for nice straight families he introduced more purity codes into NYC law than Leviticus ever thought of. Guliani? No way, no how.
  • Amelia · 2 years ago
I just smacked myself on the forehead.
What's with the gay community supporting Republicans that are so very against the entire community?
Um. Hello. Someone wake up. Please.
  • Atticus Finch · 2 years ago
This is insulting. Amelia, this is a joke, honey. This video is perpetuating the kind of stereotypes ("I've had no fewer than five domestic partners") that the GOP wants to have everyone believe. Gaysforgiuliani.com isn't even a working website.
  • crazyworld · 2 years ago
Being hetero, I can't presume to speak for the sensibilities of LGBT people, but it looks pretty offensive to my eyes. It plays into offensive stereotypes, and I am unable to see any purpose it could serve other than driving a wedge between Rudy and the Repug base while confirming their prejudices, which is counterproductive to say the least. I support complete equality under the law for all regardless of sexual orientation, but I don't believe that the way to achieve that goal is with a video of actors portraying a "simpering pansy" and other exaggerated or totally untrue and otherwise offensive stereotypes.
  • Jenn Liu · 2 years ago
kids, that is too funny. check out my video regarding gays and the republicans...

GAYS FOR GIULIANI is like JEWS FOR HITLER! Are you guys NUTS??? Please - crawl back into your log cabin!
  • jm · 2 years ago
My God some of you people responding are so stupid - It's SATIRE folks.
  • Vittoria Conn · 2 years ago
These people don't even get that this is a joke? Geez...no wonder Bush won twice.
  • BJZuckATL · 2 years ago
Silly GIRLS! I am openly gay and I know this started out as a joke but when I saw this on CNN I had to look you up and comment. I'm just wondering if you've guys have that in effect Hillary has already beat the pants off Rudy once and I suspect if given the chance she'll do it again! The question in my mind is can she really beat Newt or any number of other equally radical and far less gay friendly zealots the right may come up with if they had their way. In my mind, Rudys' success as the Republican nominee would be a WINDFALL for Clinton & Clinton! Lay off the short term thinking! Let's go have a cocktail!
  • Nancy Griffin · 2 years ago
This has to be a bad joke or a plant by the Fred Thompson people to make Guiliani and gays look bad. Ditch it.
  • Mimi · 2 years ago
"Gays for Guiliani" is obviously a joke. What I don't understand is why so many gays supported Bush in the last election. I did alot of canvassing in my town which included alot of LGBT folks and they were 2 to 1 supporting Bush. Many of them were quite wealthy and used the so-called good economy as a reason, as for the others, I haven't a clue. But that's American politics for you.

    hint: goto gaysforgiuliani.com

Nothing there. Now you're catching on.
  • Hugh R. Bruce · 2 years ago
Perhaps someone might like to ask New Yorkers why hizonner never marched more than 12 blocks in the one Gay Pride Parade he attended. After being heckled and cursed at for 12 blocks, I too would have left. We don't need any "Swift Boat" lies to derail the illusions of an infantile demagogue like Giulliani. There is enough videotape of his own insane behavior to guarantee the election of any opponent. It's sad what a few sick and ignorant queens will do to get their repulsive faces on television.
  • Rick · 2 years ago
What an offensive clip. As several others have observed, it clearly conforms to the stereotypical behavior expected by the anti-gay community. It makes me wonder what the "real deal" going on here is.

Separately, just how important is it if Giuliani dressed in drag, has been divorced, has a kid who doesn't support him? Making these things a big issue is embarrassing and makes those who use such tactics look excessive and ridiculous. I hate this dirty, unnecessary part of the political scene. Far more attention is focused on this kind of junk than on the things we really should be concerned about when it comes to evaluating candidates for election.

lmo. website is up. //gaysforguiliani.com or www.gaysforguiliani.com your call.
  • not unpreposterous · 2 years ago
I understand that this is supposed to be parodic, or satirical. I can tell you what it does achieve: an uncomfortable air of UNFUNNY PANDERING to the HOMOPHOBIC.
  • dezertdog6 · 2 years ago
I'm gay but its beyond that as a reason for whom to elect. I used to like Rudy until I heard from New Yorkers why that's not such a goood idea. Just because he was good on SNL and rode in the parade once doesn't mean we should have this crazy hetero in office.
  • dingobully · 2 years ago
Is this from Saturday Night Live or something? Why are people making a big deal out of a comedy skit?
  • Marshall Kirkpatrick · 2 years ago
This is awfully homophobic and anyone associated with it should be ashamed of themselves.
  • Reuben Herfindahl · 2 years ago
Great, let's give the democrats a really bad name by making every stereotype we can do. This is revolting
  • David · 2 years ago
Undoubtedly ironic, but nonetheless homophobic. What is this video doing on your website?
  • RussBBinVegas@aol.com · 2 years ago
Wow, this totally sucks. It's supposed to be funny? Since when do intelligent progressives think they need to use stereotypes to make a point. Guiliani has enough disastrous qualities you can illustrate without having to resort to such offensive silliness.
  • Lee · 2 years ago
There is nothing sadder than self-loathing homosexuals. Those who support this idiot and liar named Giuliani are just that. Just when I think we are making progress, I see this sort of thing and I am reminded that we as a community are our own worst enemy.
  • Terry · 2 years ago
I hope this is a joke. No self respecting gay person would vote for this flip-flopping lier. Why do these people want to vote for him - because he does drag at every opportunity? How could anybody believe this man would make a good president?
  • Dave · 2 years ago
This is not parody, it's not satire. Both forms use humor, and this is NOT humor. I'll guarantee you that 70% of Americans out there would take a look at this and go "Yup, Yup, that's about right, those crazy queers". This is offensive and should never have a place on any site that believes in gay rights. This is my last time to this site unless this is removed and an apology posted.
  • TimBear · 2 years ago
It is obvious that this fake commercial is designed to inflame the neo-con and Christian Right against Guiliani. I would not be surprised if it was created by one of those groups. As a gay man, I find it highly insulting.
  • Rick L. · 2 years ago
This is bullshit. I really enjoyed your 'the real guilliani' part one, but this clip is completely offensive to me, because it is obviously marketed to homophobic people who are going to vote for just another republican. I'm gay and I'm really offended by this clip; I really enjoyed some of the work on this site, but I won't be coming back either. You've lost all the credibility you've built up until now.
  • Bobach · 2 years ago
Unbelievable! Could they find any more limp-wristed, stereotypical queens for this shameful piece? I have to agree with many posting here. This has got to be a ploy to turn Republicans against Guiliani. It's enough to turn this gay man against GAYS for crissakes.
  • Art Glick · 2 years ago
C'mon folks. Are you blind to what this is? Frankly, I think it's nice to see liberals and progressives playing the same dirty tricks that the Republicans have been playing since Nixon beat McGovern. Most of you are probably too young to remember Ed Muskie. Nixon's people "helped" the Dems pick McGovern, because they knew he'd be easier to beat!

While Giuliani might have policies that offend many of the neocons, he'd be one of the most formidable candidates in the general election for those same moderate views. It's to our advantage to have the Republicans field some (less electable) off the wall "I don't believe in evolution" candidate (though that didn't work too well in the last two presidential elections)!

That's why you probably have neocons funding candidates like Obama and Clinton! They may be more popular to their base, but they stand much less of a chance in the general election. The Republicans greatest fear is having to run against someone with the broad appeal that Edwards has.

Oh what a web we weave, when first we practice to decieve!
  • morley · 2 years ago
God help us - the medium is the message!
  • Miriam Ben-Shalom · 2 years ago
Are we sure this is "for real"? This is most insulting; all these people are stereotypical Gays. As a Gay woman who has been out for a very long time (over 30 years), I find this ad demeaning and just plain senseless. If this is--for real--then I would say that NYC LGBTQ people need to really do some soul searching about themselves.

I suspect, however, that this is a put-on of some sort! It just doesn't ring true. It smells bad, know what I mean? My experience with NYC LGBTQ people is that they are a very savvy group and wouldn't do something as slip-shod as this!
  • normal · 2 years ago
Phew - what an insulting video obviously made by a bunch of self-loathing closet queens. lose it.
  • lickbush · 2 years ago
I love watching Republicans feeding on each other.

Tap foot for a Republican ;-)

Rove would give this an A+
  • JNagarya · 2 years ago
Unfortunately, those not practiced at satire screw up by not recognizing the double-edged sword it is when misused. This fake ad badly misuses satire, and for that reason it backfires by not only making Guliani look bad -- which is the intent -- but also by making those who made it, and who appear in it, appear to be bigots, whether for or against the "gay" "agenda" being rendered irrelevant.

Shooting oneself in the foot is not good satire precisely because one is missing the intended target.
  • al · 2 years ago
this is really despicable and undercuts the strong messages of some of the other videos. It really should be taken down.
  • rev24 · 2 years ago
Persuasive satire! FYI for all you people up in arms - the guy who did this film is gay! Sure gay people can be homophobic (Larry Craig anyone), but kind of absurd especially when the percieved homophobia plays into the message of this video.

If you click on the responses in Youtube you can also see CNN and Hardball's coverage of this video..
  • Guy Paul · 2 years ago
Please remove this clip. Talk about divisive. All this can possibly accomplish is to insult and dammage. This is worse than a bad joke; gays and lesbians get beat up for crap like this. Why should we be made the scapegoat for a videographer's passionate hatred? If Giuliani made a comment in favor of Civil Rights would you be playing coon jokes on your Web Site?
    Shame on all of you.
  • casey · 2 years ago
this has got to be a hack job making him look bad... i mean, look at these gays! they're all dressed retarded and with too much makeup! this has to be some sorta joke!!! and then the gay fist with lightning?!?!? (the gay man will riiiiise up!) this will scare the shit outta any republican. hahaha. i'm sure this was made to scare republicans.
    hahahaha.

    funny.
  • Michael · 2 years ago
Now is the time be brave. Do what Bush can never do. Apologize. The left has got a much better analyis, and a way better program, but dang we can make a mistake. And we should admit it when we do.
  • Jeff · 2 years ago
Wow -- this is a really homophobic ad, obviously pandering to conservatives' terror of gay marriage. Why on earth is Brave New Films posting this on their site? Do they agree that Giuliani should be criticized for his previously pro-gay stance?

I loathe Giuliani with every bone in my body, but I'm disgusted to see this video here. Speaking as a gay man, screw Brave New Films. This further confirms my suspicion that NOBODY IS GOING TO GET IT when it comes to equal and fair treatment for gay people.

    Shame, shame, shame.
  • Mark · 2 years ago
This ad is absolutely disgraceful and inexcusable, as anti-gay as anything I have ever seen. Imagine the outrage that you would have generated if you had run an ad of Black Minstrels. This is no less tasteless in these times. I don't care if it's supposed to be a "joke" or if some "gay" producer created it. You show by sponsoring this ad that you hate gays and are really just using us for your political ends, simply to discard us as "inconvenient" when it actually comes to governing. Have you no shame?
  • RussBBinVegas@aol.com · 2 years ago
Hey, you brilliant fucks who made this! Love those lisping queens! And while you're at it, put up a video with some jig-a-boo shiftless niggers who love Guiliani too, and some big-nose hebe hymie kikes, and some lazy stinking Mexican spics! Boy, won't that get rightwing Republican bigots to hate Guiliani even more! Did I miss any stereotype? Go 4 it!
  • Chris H · 2 years ago
Looking at the comments above, I'm feeling afeard that the stereotype of the "humorous liberal" has a lot more substance to it than I ever believed. Remember what Voltaire said: "I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it." Our enemies can't get any more ridiculous, even if their effects are horrific, and we should never be ashamed to use that against them.
  • Scott Mercer · 2 years ago
No wonder we on the left can't win an election. You people are too humorless to recognize satire when you see it, and the target of said satire is not those people portrayed in the clip, but those idiots who would react negatively to it and abandon Giuliani merely because he has evidenced some limited support for gays in the past.

And by the way, the characters portrayed in this clip may not represent every single gay person, but you know, and I know, that these types of personalities do exist out there, and to demand that this clip be taken down simply because they don't conform to "political correctness" is just as a homophobic as any Republican watching this who would kick Giuliani to the curb due to this video without realizing it was a satire (and believing this clip represents an accurate portrayal of the entire gay population).

And hey, you clueless people who don't read the comments: stop posting comments questioning if it is fake! Yes, it is fake. Yes, it is satire. Yes, it is supposed to make Repbulicans queasy. Yes, it is supposed to discredit Giuliani among Republicans. I hope it works. But even if it doesn't work, Mrs. Clinton will kick his ass in the election.
  • Rich · 2 years ago
You don't have to be gay or not to figure out this is a joke..Watch the "failure of leadership" video to find that he only has his own agenda on his mind.
  • hdp · 2 years ago
Are you people intentionally stupid or where you born American? I can't believe for a second anyone believes this is real. You people are retarded and deserve whichever crackpot president you get. The worse the better.
  • Jeff · 2 years ago
The clip is obviously satire -- it's not done well enough to convince that it's real -- but it nonetheless presents gay people, yet again, as political "cooties." Those are the grounds on which I find this clip offensive -- with so much dirt available to criticize Giuliani, why pick the one trait that shows he has a shred of humanity, ie. his acceptance of gays (at least until recently)?

Shame on Brave New Films for supporting gay-baiting, even when it's created by deluded gays themselves.
  • John · 2 years ago
This "endorsement" has to be a satire. It uses the most stereotyped image of gay men I've seen in a long time. Effeminate, wearing effete clothing, mannerisms...this looks like a 1960s image of gay men, not the average gay man we see in 2007. I'm amazed that anyone would even consider this as a genuine endorsement. (And yes, I am a gay man in the south and I've yet to hear other gay or lesbian supporting a Republican candidate, much less Rudy.)
