Don't forget that it is also NOT possible to see Janet Jackson's tit accidentally hanging out for 0.3 seconds, but it IS completely possible to watch men beating themselves into pulp on Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) for hours on end -- with legions of kids cheering it on...
  • karen pieper · 2 years ago
I wish she left out the gd....but certainly didn't need to censor the rest. Maybe it is best that it was censored, cuz there's more publicity about it. Kp
  • John Ehrenfeld · 2 years ago
It's a state state of affairs when one can't say god damn on the air. Cheney can say fuck you to a Senator in Congress but, a mother can't say god damn about an immoral war where thosands of children have died and become refugees.

So much for any fantasy about this being a democracy and freedom of speech. Thought the airwaves were public?
  • John Ehrenfeld · 2 years ago
    "sad state of affairs" . . .
  • Mark @ News Corpse · 2 years ago
This is the second instance of Emmy censorship this season, following Kathy Griffin’s remarks a night earlier when, mocking award winners who give credit to God for their victory, Griffin said that, “…no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.”

Isn’t it interesting that in both occurrences of a clampdown on free speech, a reference to God was a key factor?
  • Jim Treacher · 2 years ago
You blew the lid off it: Different channels have different standards for different hours of the day. Or even the same channel. "How can they have all that violence and stuff on Lost, when my kids watch cartoons on ABC Saturday mornings?" You conservatives...
  • Jim Treacher · 2 years ago
Exactly. If you're letting your kids stay up to watch Red Eye, hearing a curse word on TV is the least of their problems.
  • Jim Treacher · 2 years ago
Come to think of it, how about adding a montage of cursing from Rescue Me and The Shield? FX is another Murdoch channel.
  • Lynn Weeks · 2 years ago
Sally is right. If all the mothers of the world closed their legs and refused to breed cannon fodder, and, simultaneously refused to support theirs children's volunteering for military service we would soon have a much better world. No doubt the draft would be reinstated but the consequences of that...remember Vietmam? What would bushieboy do then?
  • John Ehrenfeld · 2 years ago
We watch Fox to expose the lies and misrepresentations of a biased mouthpiece for the right-wing that falsely represents itself as a fair and balanced news organization. They are neither. That's why we watch. It's not fun. It's work, it's necessary.
  • Roger Bixley · 2 years ago
Can you come up with an example of Fox airing "goddamn" on BROADCAST television, instead of Fox News, which is cable? Otherwise, this is quite a flimsy case for hypocrisy.
  • Arick West · 2 years ago
I think that people here are missing the point of this whole thing. This is about the Big 5 media corporations GE, Fox, Viacom/Group W(CBS), ABC/Disney & Clear Chanel Communication now starting to control everything that we see and hear on the TV. This was PURE censorship it had nothing to do with the GD it was about here WAR statement. That show was carried with a 20 Second delay, and where they cut her out from had nothing to do with the GD it had to do with her stating that there would be no WAR. Look out people we are heading into propaganda like media with few controlling the masses. Check your WWII history and think for a minute or two.
  • dustrider · 2 years ago
Fox can solve this problem next year.
Just put the Emmys on at 2 o'clock in the morning and anyone can say anything they want. And judging by the ratings this year, the later start wouldn't hurt viewership all that much.

    News,
I think you need to go back and recheck your information on Obama and Hillary. Obama didnt even show up. He said they should have been holding sessions for bring and solution to the cluster@$%@ that bush and the rest of his cronies got us into. And Hillary was present and show voted no on the bill. So get the facts straight before you make arguments without out doing the research.

My letter to Michelle Malkin regarding her hateful comments to Sally Fields and Cindy Sheehan:

    MM,

interesting article about Sally Fields and the "war".

I'm an ex-Air Force sergeant, and a very staunch
Christian Conservative. That being said, I find it
ironic that you, as a mother, spew such hatred out at people of whom you don't agree. You use ad hominem, and ridicule and outright lie about things. Plus the fact that you base your argument on a faulty premise. I'm still waiting for a sound logical argument from you.

Everyone in politics, and most of the world, along
with the CIA and the FBI know that Iraq, and
Afghanistan had nothing to do with 9/11. There wasn't "faulty" evidence. There was no evidence of WMD. Nor have there ever been any found. It is an illegal occupation of a sovereign nation. You know it, and I know it. The only patriot in America is the one who remembers his or her oath to the Constitution. From the President to the smallest Airman: To defend the Constitution against all foreign and domestic enemies. Whoever does not do this is a traitor. Remember, tyranny is old, and freedom is new. 200 years new.

You, Ms. Malkin, are a mouthpiece of your corporate masters. A neo-con who is not concerned with America, nor the Constitution, but with global domination and your position therein. Do you honestly believe that you are tougher than Cindy Sheehan? A mother who lost her son in an illegal occupation by corporations and their puppet government? You are nothing but a ranting lunatic if you think you that. Your spewed
vitriol has all the implications of a sad and lonely childhood.

I suggest you find a therapist as soon as possible. Oh, and perhaps a critical thinking class.

And remember; Neo-cons don't speak for anyone.

Once agian you guys at Fox Facist Network show your true colors. Why don't you be honset about what you stand for & just fly the Swastika flag. One thing Hitler had up on you petty morons is the fact that he had the balls to openly declare his intentions. I for one refuse to march passively into the gas chambers you're preparing for the likes of me, and anyone else who doesn't subscribe to your right-wing, hate-mongering, fascist agenda. I think you guys ought to be the subject of a "final solution", let's see how you like being tatooed as enemies of the state and marched into the extermination camps! Death to all fascists and their boot-licking syncophants! Death to the GOP!

Rupert Murdoch controls, in one way or another, most of the world's communication systems; even New Zealand has been infected through his fairfax fingers. Sally Field is unfortunately small potatoes (even though she's right). Men do control the world and they are destroying it and until mothers take charge as they once did in much earlier times, our lives will continue to becontrolled by men and will cost us all, including men, funnily enough. Goddam. Maybe Sally can go back to her flying nun habit and make a 'miracle'.
    J
  • J · 2 years ago
u missed my point blahdeblahdeblah. Men control the world. Women,(especially those in religious relationships) therefore, have no real control over their actions. This means that the 'skank' (u have brought the English/American/New Zealand language low,)or bad mother, is so because of the treatment or training she has received at men's hands. Luckily, there are some wonderful men out there, but they generally enjoy the status quo of controlling women because it is to their advantage. Religion, any religion, states that women are less than men. That is implying that women are not quite human. In New Zealand, we have a woman Prime Minister who runs the country in an inclusive way. Generally, women think of all people in their political dealings. Men think mainly of themselves and where they sit on the world stage. I have watched your politics and (like New Zealand) there is a vicious backlash of people including women, against the possibility of a woman leader. Much of it is tied in with religion. In fact, teachings from groups like promisekeepers and neo-right evangelicals are being imported from America to do that. Please take them back. Luckily, in NZ, the majority of men and women judge the person and not the gender because our Prime minister is now in her eighth year. About your 'by most people's accounts' is this a scientific accounting?
  • J · 2 years ago
Just because we have a female PM, does not mean the average Joe doesn't control Josephine. Did I forget to say that women really are their own worst enemies. They are afraid to believe in themselves. They feel they need a man to make decisions for them and that is entirely their fault - NZ, in America, in England for examples. There are no victims, only people who have allowed others to brainwash them and that will take generations to wipe out. Take religion away, the fear of rape or beatings and gender-biased legislation in all countries and yes women would be free to make their own choices. Our PM is definitely not without flaws. Although the opposition has implied that their male leader is. We shall see. It will be an interesting campaign in 2008 for reasons of gender, political philosophy, religion, et cetera. 'Innate motherly duties'- really dangerous to assume all women are earth mothers and every man a (thinking) leader. In America your women work at home and outside the home, same as NZ. That's two jobs. Surely you're not one of these people who thinks bringing up children isn't hard slog. Many NZers hold up America as being freer than NZ because our present Government is supposedly more 'socialist' (I call it umbrella holding)and yours is Capitalist but to me a capitalist society only exists for those who have no responsiblility to others, whereas mothers always do. Now, B, it's been great chatting with you but I have to get dinner. Please don't think I'm 'walking away' from my responsibility to you, but as needs must. I'll check later for any more notes. J
  • J · 2 years ago
sorry - the last thing I can ever be accused of by my friends is 'anonymous'.
    J
  • J · 2 years ago
B, Fortunately, I'm made of sterner stuff than you seem to think. Haven't you heard of never coming between a mother bear and her cubs. Women are far more dangerous than men can ever imagine if they are pushed over the edge. They will protect their children and if in the end that's what it means, I for one will line up against the nasties. Beware of women if they ever decide it's time to take joint action to protect their children. And I agree. That time is near. Goodbye J
  • J · 2 years ago
B, Men use fish, animals, insects and even inanimate objects if it helps them maintain control over women's destiny. Yet I can't use a bear? One minute you're trying to tell me I can't escape my femaleness and yet you refuse to accept my wish to protect my young. Bush goes into Iraq. Clark does not. Both decisions made with one would hope good advice and intelligent decision making skills. People did die because of his decision, one he said was made with the support of God - how much more emotional do you want! - and they're still dying. I'm happy to say that men and women are physiologically different for different purposes, but their brains are just as intelligent/thoughtful, both equally useful to the world. Having children is just part of a woman. It's as if men are scared of her power. So they seek to crush her or control her or place her in a male-made box. Leave her alone. She is not men's enemy. Until women are believed to be equal in importance to men by men, this world will continue to be a brutal and nasty place and the losers are men, women and children because men do make decisions based on emotional needs. I believe they are far more emotional than women. If you can track down a documentary aired on BBC several years ago, you will see that women have been socially engineered by men, and it's still happening, to the detriment of our race. J

I am offended by her comments about "Mothers". So Sally, you believe its only mothers who are peace makers? I am a women and NOT a "mother" so Sally dose that mean I am a war monger? I see "mothers" today throw their children in the garbage. Leave their childen in the cold in the streets while they are to busy drinking at a bar. So if you think only "mothers" are the only ones that can solve the worlds problems...I don't want to live in that world. Sally, my father Bob Horton was the kindest sweetist man that lived. He was a MAN so do you believe by his x.y genetic make up makes him a war monger than I suggest you live in that world without men. I surely do not want to live in your narrow minded stereotype world. I just wish you luck in a mindless all women world without women who can not or do not want children or men. I now even dislike the movies you are in.
  • M · 2 years ago
Oh dear, have a cup of tea and a lie down, dear, and while you're resting all your orifices, think about where the trouble is in the world; who the leaders of those countries are; then think about who then have the nerve to say they will protect us from all that. You should get the same answer. It begins with m, ends with n and has 3 letters. Apart from that, I know a woman leader who has no children and considers all her country men and women are her 'children', and that she has promised to protect and nurture them and not make stupid, greedy testosterone-fuelled decisions. Sally Field made a valid point because when women have children they invest birth pain, time, money - lots of money (I have teenagers) - and hold grave fears for their children's futures in a world gone mad. You can be offended by Sally Field's comments and mine too, but the fact remains, the majority of women would not willingly send their children out to die. What they would do is go themselves. (The women you describe are the women who would have been better off not having children. Maybe you could look at what made them that way. It also proves the rule that not every woman is an earth mother and women and men should never be stereotyped.) What a shame all the world's leaders, mostly men, wouldn't fight their own battles. I believe war would definitely end then. There's nothing like the threat of having to do your own dirty work to make you think twice before sending others. There is a saying in women's refuges - 'I married a man to protect me but who's going to protect me from him'. A world of power sharing women and men and children is the ideal. Let's strive for that. Women beating up on other women is not a good start.
  • k · 2 years ago
thank you M. for considering my feelings cause I was not able to bear children and blessed with the hurt of birthing children. I am happy for you being able to. Consider yourslef blessed. I will try to believe that I am not less of a women even when most women think I am.
Take care and I will go have myself some tea and cry now.
  • M · 2 years ago
K, You brought me right down to size. I would still not change a word of what I have said, apart from saying people who are 'blessed' to have children will always take the blessing for granted and it needs people like yourself to remind us we should be grateful. I find these talk forums are a great place to say what we really think and for others to give us their take on it. I read all the opinions - there are some very angry people out there who have no way of showing their frustration because the powers that be, once we have put them in power, often stop listening to us. I wasn't joking about the tea. The whole process from the preparation to the drinking and relaxing are very cathartic. Enough waffle from me. You have a unique opportunity to get involved in the lives of all sorts of children in all sorts of situations - reading in hospitals, that sort of thing, if it wasn't too difficult for you to cope with emotionally. Enjoy your life. Share yourself.

Allen, Are we talking about the same country. During the 2nd World War, you were there for other countries and you stood side by side and watched one another's backs. If I had to I would choose America over an Al Quaeda country, because our two countries go back a long way and our vision of utopia is reasonably similar.
But, I do need to take you to task over women being raped, etc by invaders. From time immemorial, in every country, it has been our own countrymen who have raped, incested, battered and murdered us as a means of control over us. Invasion is just rape, battering and murder by men from a different country. Men are so precious sometimes. You place women in the invidious position of being feminine and vulnerable and unable to defend themselves, you tell them they are unfeminine if they dare to stand up for themselves and then you hate them, yes men hate women for not being more like men, Allen. You hate their weakness even though you need to make them weak in order to control them. Women are tough individuals. They cope with all sorts of adversity and they have all the responsibility and none of the power. Men refuse to share that power and over the centuries they have brainwashed women into believing they cannot survive without men. Frankly, who would want to live in a world of just women or just men. But, the important point here, Allen, is that men need women far more than women need men. Let them be strong Allen and they will stand beside you if and when the attack comes. M
  • k · 2 years ago
Hey, thanks M. You are very sweet to see my side. It is also a wonderful suggestion of reading to kids in hospitals and the like. I am treaching a craft class to kids and I love it. The kids are so creative.

It all boils down to what Reagan did in 1988 bowing to pressure from the right: "Abolishing the Fairness Doctrine" which allowed channels like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh to exist. 92% of radio talk show hosts are right wing persuasion. Public airwaves belong to the public and the fairness doctrine must be restored. Insist that the presidential candidates promise to restore the fairness doctrine and bust the 5 media monopolies which control our thought process.

all men should be locked away and so women can rule the world. and it wouldnt be fucked up like it is now. women who kill thier children, and let thier relationship come b4 taking care of thier child, then they should get a hysterectemy and put on an island. letting out child molestors and shit like that.
  • Monica Carpenter · 12 months ago
Sally Field has no class and obviously no intelligence. If women ruled the world, there wouldn't be any wars, because then, there wouldn't be any men to fight for them. I'm not saying women don't fight, but men get the job done. And I'm not a man, I'm a woman. If women ruled the world, we would become extinct. Duh. And How classy of her do use God's name in vain on TV and the whole audience claps?

I would like to add that it is completely a person's decision whether or not they go into the U.S. Military. The mothers have no say so. When you sign a contract with the U.S. Military, you're signing it knowing that there is a possibility of war, so if you don't want in, then don't sign! And stop complaining about the war unless you're fighting in it.

This is MY OPINION about FOX NEWS.............NO ONE ELSES.
