Larry AND CNN are showing just how screwed and skewed the capitalist pigs keep our attention off of what is truly important so that they can continue to pull the proverbial rug out from under us, all while pulling the wool over our eyes. Michael Moore should be applauded and recognized as an important person in our country's history and the Bush administration written about as the most obnoxious and ignorant group of tyrants the google earth has seen.

what do people mean when they say we would have long waits with universal health care...I have insurance and had to wait 8 weeks to see a surgeon for carpal tunnel surgery...I had to wait from april till august once to see an alergy doctor...wait? we wait now!

This is nothing new. I worked in healthcare for 30 years and immediately saw the disgusting treatment given to HMO victims. I made it my life's ambition to destroy them. The primary goal of an insurance company is to keep their shareholders happy. It is nothing short of extortion, they gladly take our monthly premiums, then only allow the cheapest treatment available. I knew a cardiologist who quit working for an HMO, after he contacted some bean counter for approval for a surgical procedure for his patient. The HMO asked him what other options were available, and medication was mentioned as a last resort. Of course his requested was denied for the surgical procedure, and he was treated medically, which was sub optimum care.
I could post a story every day of the horrors I witnessed, and I would need at least a year.
People, stop being complacent. Ask questions, expect answers. Remember you are the consumer here.

I saw Sicko the other day and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Being a Canadian, I only have experience with our health care system. I keep hearing scare mongering reports of incredible waits for medical procedures. While it is true that some waiting is necessary for non-emergencies, a genuine emergency is treated immediately. No checking to see if the insurer will cover the procedure, no checking to see if the person has the monetary means to pay. Just medical service. I was angered to see repeated blockages by corporations ignoring human beings in favor of the almighty bottom line, money. In my opinion, corporations are the major cause of many of the earths woes today. Corporations only care about making money and they will do whatever they must to do that. They have proven time and time again that they couldn't care less about the people that they hurt and kill day in and day out. There is an excellent documentary that I would highly recommend viewing. "The Corporation". I was amazed and saddened by the things that I learned in that video.

He said Canada does not like to invade other countries? I disagree. The US army has full support of Canadian troops. Late at night here they air names of Canadian soldiers killed in Iraq. SO don't tell me we are peaceful - we just have a smaller military budget.

i'm canadian also, and moore is right. he hasn't even exaggerated too bad this time, though he sure is a showman.

but i recall medicare coming into canada in the 50 years ago. it was very very difficult and disruptive. a few brave people had to struggle against the will of the doctors. it began in the province of saskatchewan when tommy douglas convinced the people of saskatchewan that they deserved medicare (england was the model at that time). they elected his party and medicare was brought in to that province.

his party was socialist. there aren't any socialist parties in the usa. to us the democrats are right wing and the republicans are more right wing. generally speaking canada is quite a bit left of the usa.

then all the doctors in the province went on strike. very noisy. big conflict. doctors were brought in from england. it went on for a long time. everyone was polarized. the doctors were not bad people, and honestly felt that socialized medicine was a dangerous terrible thing. but it happened. and gradually it proved itself in saskatchewan.

then the federal government under a saskatchewan prime minister, john diefenbaker made medicare an across canada thing. and john was a conservative, as right wing as we get in canada.

these many years later, while we complain about it a lot, we love it the most. it is generally speaking on the top of the list of the things we consider canadian and that we want to keep. tommy douglas was recently voted the number one canadian in our history.

i'm in aviation. when i was a kid my father flew medivacs regularly down into the states for better medical service. now we regularly fly canadian citizens that have got sick while in the usa back from usa hospitals to equal but affordable care in canada.

it's interesting that stewart points out how the rich and the poor get care, but the folks in the middle have a hard time of it all. count the votes folks. it can be done.

good luck to you all then in the next election. moore's film looks like it might get the issue moving.

True enough, Canada's not in Iraq, we're in Afghanistan; however, it's not a UN mission, it's a NATO mission. We just have a very vaguely worded mandate to root out the terrorists, not necessarily do all the stuff we're doing.

Once, I had money. A chunk disappeared when Regan deregulated the banks giving them license to steal. The rest has disappeared in similar way. I used to pay for all of my medical care. Now I am unable to pay and guess what. There is no such thing as medical care for older people without money., NONE! They take whatever Medicare gives them and give you generic pills; never look in your eyes, throat - give a cursory listen to your heart and if you can get yourself up on their table without help, YOU ARE FINE. If you have 2 or more things to discuss, notice how the Dr. avoids the more serious ones and poses a psychological trick of 'fixing the lesser one' and all of this in 3 minutes or less.

How about the Dentists? Their charges are OUTRAGEOUS and they are UNREGULATED/PROTECTED and those authorized by low income insurance are a JOKE.........I KNOW
